Valentin & The Widow… from the beginning

NEW LISTENERS!

If you’re new here and looking to start listening to my 1920s action serial Valentin & The Widow from the first adventure, The Mandrake Machine, visit the official page at my website, andrewwheeler.co.uk,

ESTABLISHED LISTENERS!

(I didn’t want to call you “old”.)

Thank you for your patience in waiting for new episodes. I’ve had to prioritize a novel and a comics project over the next adventure, but more Valentin & The Widow is coming.

The next story, Powderkeg, takes our heroes to Baghdad, where they encounter a machine that delivers death from above. Subsequent adventures include a homecoming for one of our heroes, a visit to the U.S. of A. during prohibition, and some juicy deceptions and derring-do.

More dangerous women, more fearsome engines, more beautiful men; it’s all coming up in Valentin & The Widow. Stick around! (Or listen again!)

Vist the Valentin & The Widow website for a complete index of the adventures so far.

letter-airy asked: Happy Holidays! I'm a huge fan of Valentin & the Widow! When I feel down or out-of-sorts, I like to listen to V&tW episodes to cheer up and get caught up in a different world. You mentioned at the completion of "Paris Pas de Deux" that a second season will come later this year. I'm not the sort to demand "more, more!" and I don't wish to come off that way. I'm just curious if you have plans for more V&tW tales in the near or far future. I hope it is not rude to ask you. Have a lovely year ahead!

wheelr:

Thanks for the kind words - and thank you to everyone who sent me messages like this!

You’re right, I said V&TW would be back later this year, and with the end of the year only two weeks away, the least I can do is offer an update. The bad news is, there won’t be any new adventures in the next two weeks.

The good news is two-fold. First; I’ve been working on other stories - all with female heroes, gay heroes or both. Those aren’t going to be podcast fiction, they’ll come out through other venues with much slower lead times.

Second, there will definitely be more V&TW. How soon you get to experience it will depend on my other commitments, and I may have to change my approach - shorter episodes, longer breaks between story arcs  - but I’m not going to leave Eleanora and Sacha’s story unfinished. Not when Eleanora is ever-closer to identifying all her late husband’s conspirators, and when Sacha is learning to open himself up at last. It wouldn’t be fair.

I’m working on getting these stories to you. I just can’t tell you exactly when it’ll happen, and I don’t want to make any more promises I might not be able to keep.

Sketching on the train while listening to @wheeler’s Valentin serial, Paris Pas De Deux. Can’t get Valentin right.

I love it! Not the handsomest Valentin, but it’s definitely a recognisable beaten-up Valentin expression!

I mentioned on Twitter that there ought to be a Penguin Classics cover generator on the internet. An instant later, my old friend Sigma 7 made my dream come true.

Sure, these aren’t real, but I can’t tell you how satisfying it is just to pretend for a moment! Try it yourself; go generate your own fake Penguin Classics book cover and stick your name on it. You will magically feel about ten feet taller.

(It should go without saying that this was created in a spirit of good will and appreciation for a design classic. I’m sadly certain that there are lawyers at Penguin who will feel very differently.)

Reminder: These covers aren’t real, but the books are! And the real covers are actually even better!
